What Is Guanfacine HCL 1mg?
Guanfacine HCL is a prescription medication in the alpha-2 adrenergic agonist class. The extended-release form (brand name Intuniv) is FDA-approved to treat ADHD in children and adolescents, either alone or alongside stimulant medications. The immediate-release form is approved to treat high blood pressure in adults. Guanfacine works by stimulating alpha-2A receptors in the brain, which is thought to improve attention and impulse control and to lower blood pressure by relaxing blood vessels.
