What Is Itraconazole 100mg?
Itraconazole is an oral azole antifungal medication that works by stopping fungi from making ergosterol, an essential part of their cell membranes. It is FDA-approved to treat fungal infections of the toenails and fingernails (onychomycosis) as well as certain serious systemic fungal infections. Itraconazole capsules should be taken with a full meal to help the body absorb the medicine. It is available as the brand Sporanox and as a generic, and requires a valid prescription.
What Does Itraconazole 100mg Treat?
Onychomycosis of the toenail (toenail fungus)
Onychomycosis of the fingernail (fingernail fungus)
Histoplasmosis, including chronic cavitary pulmonary disease
Blastomycosis, pulmonary and extrapulmonary
Aspergillosis in patients intolerant of or refractory to amphotericin B
Itraconazole 100mg Dosage
Toenail onychomycosis: 200 mg by mouth once daily with a full meal for 12 consecutive weeks.
Fingernail onychomycosis: 200 mg by mouth twice daily for 1 week, then 3 weeks off, then repeat one 1-week course.
Blastomycosis/histoplasmosis: 200 mg by mouth once daily with a full meal; may increase to 200 mg twice daily (max 400 mg/day).

Risk of serious liver injury, including liver failure; liver monitoring may be needed
Do not use for onychomycosis during pregnancy or if planning pregnancy
Capsules require stomach acid for absorption; avoid taking with acid-reducing medicines when possible
