What Is Loperamide 2mg?
Loperamide is an antidiarrheal medication that works by slowing the movement of the intestines, allowing more water to be absorbed and producing firmer, less frequent stools. It acts on opioid receptors in the gut wall but, at recommended doses, does not produce opioid effects in the brain. Prescription loperamide 2mg capsules are used for acute nonspecific diarrhea, chronic diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease, and to reduce the volume of discharge from an ileostomy. It is the same active ingredient found in the brand-name product Imodium.
What Does Loperamide 2mg Treat?

Loperamide 2mg Dosage
Acute diarrhea: 4 mg (2 capsules) by mouth after first loose stool, then 2 mg after each subsequent loose stool; max 16 mg/day.
Chronic diarrhea: 4 mg by mouth initially, then 2 mg after each loose stool until controlled; usual maintenance 4–8 mg/day.
Discontinue if no improvement after 10 days at maximum dose (chronic) or 48 hours (acute).

Do not use in acute ulcerative colitis or bacterial enterocolitis (e.g., Salmonella, Shigella, Campylobacter)
Contraindicated in children under 2 years of age
Avoid combining with drugs that prolong the QT interval or inhibit its metabolism (e.g., certain antibiotics, antifungals)
Stop use and seek care if diarrhea worsens or abdominal distention develops
Never take more than the prescribed dose; misuse can cause fatal cardiac events
