What Is Ofloxacin 0.3% Otic Solution?
Ofloxacin otic is a prescription antibiotic ear drop that belongs to the fluoroquinolone class. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria that cause ear infections. The 0.3% solution is applied directly into the ear canal, which allows it to act at the site of infection with minimal absorption into the rest of the body. It is FDA-approved for outer ear infections in adults and children, and for certain middle ear infections in children with tympanostomy tubes and in patients with perforated eardrums.
What Does Ofloxacin 0.3% Otic Solution Treat?
Otitis externa (swimmer's ear) in adults and children 6 months and older
Acute otitis media in children 1 to 12 years with tympanostomy tubes
Chronic suppurative otitis media with perforated tympanic membrane in patients 12 years and older
Bacterial ear canal infections caused by susceptible organisms
Ofloxacin 0.3% Otic Solution Dosage
Otitis externa (adults and children 13+): Instill 10 drops into affected ear(s) once daily for 7 days.
Chronic suppurative otitis media (12+ with perforated eardrum): Instill 10 drops into affected ear(s) twice daily for 14 days.
