What Is Valsartan 40mg?
Valsartan is a prescription angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) sold under the brand name Diovan. It works by blocking a hormone that narrows blood vessels, which helps relax vessels and lower blood pressure. Doctors prescribe it for hypertension, heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death after a heart attack in certain patients. Valsartan is sometimes combined with other medicines — for example, amlodipine and valsartan are available together in a single combination tablet — but this product contains valsartan only.
What Does Valsartan 40mg Treat?
High blood pressure (hypertension) in adults
High blood pressure in children 1 year and older
Heart failure (NYHA class II–IV)
Reducing cardiovascular death after a heart attack
Lowering blood pressure to reduce risk of stroke and heart attack
Often used with amlodipine or a diuretic when additional blood pressure control is needed
