What Is Nitrofurantoin 100mg (Mono/Macro)?
Nitrofurantoin mono/macro is an oral antibiotic that combines nitrofurantoin monohydrate and macrocrystals in a single capsule, sold under the brand name Macrobid. It works by concentrating in the urine, where it damages bacterial proteins and DNA to stop the growth of bacteria that cause urinary tract infections. It is FDA-approved specifically for acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections (acute cystitis) and is not intended for kidney infections or infections outside the urinary tract.
