What Is Valacyclovir 1000mg?
Valacyclovir is an antiviral medication and the generic version of Valtrex. Once in the body, it converts to acyclovir, which interferes with the ability of herpes viruses to multiply. It is used to treat shingles (herpes zoster), cold sores (herpes labialis), and genital herpes, and it can also be prescribed to reduce the frequency of genital herpes outbreaks. Valacyclovir does not cure herpes infections, but it can shorten outbreaks and help manage symptoms.
What Does Valacyclovir 1000mg Treat?
Shingles (herpes zoster) in adults
Cold sores (herpes labialis) in adults and children 12 and older
Genital herpes — initial episodes
Genital herpes — recurrent episodes
Suppressive therapy for recurrent genital herpes
Reduction of genital herpes transmission risk in certain patients

Valacyclovir 1000mg Dosage
Shingles: 1000 mg orally 3 times daily for 7 days
Cold sores: 2000 mg orally twice daily for 1 day (12 hours apart)
Genital herpes (initial episode): 1000 mg orally twice daily for 10 days

Central nervous system effects (confusion, hallucinations) may occur, especially in elderly patients
Do not use if allergic to valacyclovir or acyclovir
Does not cure herpes and does not eliminate the risk of transmitting infection to others
