Liothyronine 5mcg is a prescription tablet containing a man-made version of triiodothyronine (T3), one of the hormones your thyroid gland naturally produces. It is used when the thyroid does not make enough hormone, a condition called hypothyroidism. Liothyronine helps restore normal energy metabolism and relieve symptoms such as fatigue, weight gain, and cold intolerance. It is sold under the brand name Cytomel and is taken by mouth, usually once daily, with dosing adjusted based on lab tests.

Nontoxic goiter: start 5 mcg by mouth once daily; increase by 5–10 mcg every 1–2 weeks; usual maintenance 75 mcg once daily.
Older adults or cardiovascular disease: start 5 mcg by mouth once daily; increase by 5 mcg increments as directed.
