What Is Rizatriptan 10mg?
Rizatriptan is a prescription medication in the triptan class, used to treat migraine attacks once they have started. It is not intended to prevent migraines or reduce how often they occur. Rizatriptan works by activating serotonin (5-HT1) receptors, which narrows swollen blood vessels around the brain and blocks pain-signaling pathways. Many patients find it relieves headache pain as well as migraine-related nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.
What Does Rizatriptan 10mg Treat?
Acute treatment of migraine with aura in adults
Acute treatment of migraine without aura in adults
Acute treatment of migraine in pediatric patients 6 to 17 years (weight-based dosing)
Relief of migraine-associated symptoms such as nausea and light/sound sensitivity
Rizatriptan 10mg Dosage
Adults: 5 mg or 10 mg by mouth once at onset of migraine.
May repeat dose after at least 2 hours if migraine returns.
Maximum: 30 mg in any 24-hour period.

Serious side effects

- Severe rise in blood pressure
- Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, trouble breathing)
Warnings & Interactions
Do not use if you have coronary artery disease, history of heart attack, or uncontrolled high blood pressure
Do not use within 24 hours of another triptan or an ergotamine-type medication
Do not use with or within 2 weeks of an MAO inhibitor
Risk of serotonin syndrome when combined with SSRIs, SNRIs, or other serotonergic drugs
Overuse (10 or more days per month) may lead to medication overuse headache
Not for prevention of migraine or for treatment of cluster or hemiplegic/basilar migraine
